FAQ
- What if it rains?
The problem of inclement weather is a common reason for people breaking a pattern of riding to work. For the less enthusiastic, even the threat of rain can make biking seem onerous. There are a number of preparations which can make the difference between riding or driving. These include the use of fenders and spare clothing. The first protection against the rain that I purchased was a set of fenders. They are inexpensive and light and when it rains they are a godsend. Fenders prevent the racing stripe of mud and guck that riding in the rain usually causes. They also reduce the amount of water splashed up onto the legs by the front wheel. These and a light jacket will significantly increase your comfort. Find yourself a bike retailer who is willing to professionally install the fenders and you will find them to be trouble free accessory on your commuting cycle. - I don’t have enough energy in the morning/evening to bike. What can I do to help that?
It’s amazing how much more energized you’ll feel at work once you bike to work in the morning. That said, if you end up too tired from a morning and evening ride, try riding only one way. How? The Regina Transit buses have a bicycle rack on the front of nearly every bus, and it’s easy to load. Plan on starting slow, going only one way, then when you feel ready, start biking both directions. The bus is also a great way to avoid the occasional rainy day ride into work, or if you’re caught with unexpected snow late or early in the cycling season.
